Overview
Bon Iver is an American indie folk band founded by [[justin-vernon|Justin Vernon]] in 2006. The band's name, which translates to 'good winter' in French, reflects the wintry landscape of Wisconsin where Vernon recorded the band's debut album, [[for-emma-forever-ago|For Emma, Forever Ago]]. This album, released in 2007, was a critical and commercial success, with its introspective and emotionally charged songwriting drawing comparisons to [[sufjan-stevens|Sufjan Stevens]] and [[iron-and-wine|Iron & Wine]]. Bon Iver's subsequent albums, including [[bon-iver|Bon Iver]] (2011) and [[22-a-million|22, A Million]] (2016), have continued to explore themes of love, loss, and self-discovery, incorporating a wide range of sounds and influences, from [[electronic-music|electronic music]] to [[jazz|jazz]]. The band has been nominated for several [[grammy-awards|Grammy Awards]], including Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album. Bon Iver has also collaborated with other notable artists, such as [[kanye-west|Kanye West]] and [[james-blake|James Blake]].
